Frequently Asked Questions

This is an organization that brings Ugandans, friends and members of the Ugandan North American Association together to promote and fight for causes they care about. As citizens of the world you care about democratic governance, strong independent institutions, health living, you would like to see the elimination of poverty and more. Join UNAA Causes to get your voice heard, to be counted and to make an impact on the way you live, on the way your values about leadership are upheld and on your standing in society as a citizen of the world.

After numerous member calls for help in reducing the cost of UNAA activities, a very nice and cheaper hotel has been secured by the San Diego community for members that might feel the need to save at least $20 per night on the Convention hotel room rate. The alternative hotel has a room rate of $149 per night with a daily car parking charge of $5 for those planning to drive to San Diego. Information pertaining to reservations shall be made available to members soon.

Members have a responsibility and a duty to the organization, its institutions and its constitution. Inaction is not an option. There is a possibility of losing UNAA to a small group, out of reach of UNAA's by laws and institutions. That is losing the entire organization.

The Council members are still actively engaged with their respective communities and that will not change. Our main duty is outreach, support and mobilization of members in our various regions and attendance of local events. However, the next phase of proposals that include a potential Constitution review process requires a streamlined process. The UNAA BoT and Electoral Commission have reaffirmed that there 15 Council members but the UNAA Executive believes that there should be 16 Council members (Minus Ms. Kibwika who recently resigned). We abide by the constitution to the letter and will not do the UNAA Executive favors because they believe otherwise. We shall continue to abide by every ruling no matter who it favors. That is what we swore to uphold on the Sunday of the Election. At this juncture, we cannot work on any serious proposals as a council when there is an individual declared both by the Board of Trustees and the Electoral Commission as a non Council Member but still conducts UNAA Council business and is recognized by the Executive. Any legislative processes that require voting necessitate a clear understanding of who is eligible to vote on the Council and we must uphold that.
